Projects / CBRE Glasgow
Creating a new central West of Scotland hub, CBRE consolidated three offices with the opening of 177 Bothwell Street in Glasgow. Occupying the entire ground floor, the 18,000 ft² space accommodates almost 400 CBRE staff.
The outstanding green credentials of the building were a key factor in the selection of the location. CBRE is targeting BREEAM Excellent and WELL Platinum accreditations for the new office, to demonstrate high standards of energy efficiency, carbon reduction and social responsibility.
Environmental, Social and Governance
Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) values underpin the design, resulting in an enhanced workspace experience for the team. Wellness is prioritised with generous planting, quiet breakout spaces and natural light. Height adjustable desks were specified to comply with standards for WELL accreditation.
Inclusive Workspace
The wide variety of workspaces provided allows for greater flexibility and choice. There are multiple, bookable meeting rooms, booths and informal meeting spaces with lounge chairs or high tables with bar stools enabling everyone to find a workspace that works for them.
Reception Area
The reception area is a striking entrance to the offices with comfortable soft furnishings, biophilia and a glass-walled, circular meeting room in the centre.
Rammed Earth Technique
Feature walls run through the building, providing a sense of place, inspired by the surrounding area. The walls, made of natural clay and minerals, use a similar process to the world’s most ancient building techniques known as ‘Rammed Earth’. The colours were mixed specifically to match soil types found in quarries around the city.
Involving the Community
Involving the local community, young creatives from the nearby Glasgow school of Art were invited to participate in a competition to create ESG inspired artwork. Examples were selected for display throughout the workspace to encourage curiosity and conversation.
Sustainable Furniture Clearance
Supporting CBRE’s carbon reduction aims, our Bureau Move division provided sustainable clearance services for redundant assets. Ensuring nothing went to landfill, assets from the previous office space were retained in the circular economy through re-use, re-sale and recycling. With our charity partner, IT equipment was securely cleaned and donated to communities in need.
Data for Scope 3 Reporting
For CBREs carbon accounting, transparent carbon savings data was provided with a Bureau Move carbon report. The report makes it easy for clients to account for the impact of Bureau Move’s service in their Scope 3 carbon accounting. For this project, a total of 10 tonnes of IT embodied carbon and just under 10 tonnes of furniture embodied carbon were saved.
