LondonSupporting their purpose of ‘Engineering a Better Society’, Elliott Wood were inspired to create ‘The Building Society’. A community and co-working space that brings together professionals from across the built environment. Their mission, “to educate, inspire, and action ideas for social and environmental reform”.
Flexible Working Environment
Achieving a workspace which would also host a community, was at the heart of the brief. Whether participating in a formal meeting, attending a seminar or a workshop, a suitable space can be found. Maintaining a flexible environment that could be easily reconfigured for networking groups or events was key to the success of the project.
Sustainable Office Furniture
To keep within the budget, Bureau worked with the team to source cost effective solutions that didn’t compromise Squire and Partners’ design. Sustainability was an important driver with 80% of the furniture coming from local manufacturers. Much of the desking and shelving is from Rawside, a London based furniture manufacturer.
Workspace Design Features
Stand out furniture includes a custom-made, two-metre diameter round table. The conference table in the shared working space is three metres long providing a great meet-up space for collaboration.
Enhancing well-being the space has planters and hanging-baskets throughout. Books, objects and decorative accessories support a home-from-home feel.
