The Beauty of Bespoke
Sourcing the perfect solution from the vast range of commercial furniture available is something that Bureau’s furniture geeks love to get their teeth into. There’s an incredible amount of choice available for commercial interiors and at this time of year with IMM Cologne, Maison et Objet and Stockholm Furniture Fair, we’re seeing many new collections arrive on the market.
Even so, it's not unusual to be challenged by limited or odd shaped space, or the need for an impactful, statement piece. Increasingly we are specifying bespoke office furniture to meet our client's exact requirements, because it’s not necessary to compromise on design with off the shelf products.
Made to Measure
Fitting into a tight space or scaling up, made to measure furniture can provide the ideal solution. When a large space in a co-working style office required an eleven-metre table, Manipine produced the perfect bespoke furniture solution with their focus on raw, natural materials. Avoiding unevenness and instability were the main challenges on this piece so great care was taken to source exactly the right wood for the job. The result - a bold statement which reflects the status of this well known financial institution.
When we work on bespoke furniture, we usually use a lot of time talking with the client about, design, look, material, purpose and measurements. When these details are agreed, we usually have a few ideas on how it could be done. So in cooperation with the client we design and produce the product so it fits perfectly to the clients wishes.
Awkward spaces
Making the most of the available space in a triangular shaped room in this City of London office space, a bespoke triangular shaped table was manufactured by Rawside.
Sustainable Design
Upcycling products is a sustainable bespoke solution and preserves classic pieces that could otherwise be lost. A classic Eames table was restored for our client by Rawside with a custom made, printed, wooden top on the original table legs. The printed Chevron surface fitted the designer’s exact specification and brought a treasured piece of furniture back to life with contemporary styling.
Specialist Furniture
For some clients a meeting room with a high spec is essential to convey a great first impression and reinforce a strong brand image. William Hands are renowned for their skilled craftspeople, luxury materials and ability to produce custom made office furniture to fit a very specific brief. A bespoke meeting table can make an impressive statement and enhances the status of a prestige or luxury brand.
Design Style
Designers that create bespoke furniture will often find that their clients like their house style but are looking for something unique or to fit with their branding. We asked furniture manufacturers what advice they would give interior designers specifying bespoke furniture. It's all about good communication. When creating one piece there isn't a prototype and manufacturers want to get it right first time. The more information in terms of scale, colour and materials that designers can supply, the quicker a solution can be produced.
It’s marvellous if designers come in with a sense of scale, bring drawings with them, bring swatches, let me know what the floor is, what the colours on the wall are, give me all the information. It’s just about talking, and quite often we will develop something that neither myself nor the designer thought about in the beginning. It can all change.
